"I'm worried about my child's academic progress"

"My child is struggling in school and falling behind"

"My child is losing motivation and becoming anxious about learning"

"I feel there is something holding my child back from achieving their full potential"

For many parents, the above are genuine concerns and it can be hard to know how to help, or what to do.  As a parent/guardian, you know your child better than anyone, and often it is your instinct that tells you if something is amiss.

Based in Chessington Surrey, Dyslexia Support Service is on hand to offer advice and guidance for families and children who are struggling at school or finding it hard to access specialist support.  As one of the few specialist practitioners in the area, I cover Kingston, Surbiton, Esher, Ewell, Epsom and Claygate.  However, if you live outside of these areas, please contact me as I have a small and dedicated team of fully qualified Dyslexia Specialists based further afield.

Unlike general learning difficulties, Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD’s) such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia and Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD/ADHD), are neurological in origin, and often affect seemingly able children.  Individuals with a SpLD process information differently, and it is these differences that can make it harder for them to acquire basic skills, such as literacy and numeracy.

Identifying a Specific Learning Difficulty is the first step to helping a child overcome barriers to learning.  We can look at their strengths and their weaknesses, and in turn understand their difficulties.  In short,  we can work out how they learn and teach them accordingly.  Whether it’s through remedial teaching, using bypass strategies or embracing assistive technology, early identification puts us in a better position to help and offer effective support.

As a qualified assessor and teacher, through Dyslexia Support I can offer guidance, advice, diagnostic assessment, remedial teaching and study skills tuition, for all ages.  In addition, I can also introduce you to other professionals who specialise in dyslexia friendly Assistive Technology and behaviour management.
